Ted Wiesner (BS ChE 1977) has received the 2006 President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching at Texas Tech University. This award is given annually to one member of each of the 13 Colleges at TTU. Dr. Wiesner, an associate professor of chemical engineering, received the award in recognition of his contributions to computer-based instruction of engineers, and for his outstanding work in the classroom. Ted attributes his teaching success to the excellent models he had in K-State’s Chemical Engineering Department. He and his wife, Colleen, live in Lubbock, TX.
Cannon Clifton (1996) graduated from medical school in May 2005 and is now a resident physician in general surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He also passed the exam to become a licensed Texas P.E. in April 2005.
Laura Beth Bienhoff (2005) has been named to a two-year pilot position as the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Board of Directors Collegiate Representative. She will participate in all board of director activities as a non-voting member and will answer directly to the national president of SWE.
Derek Peine (BS ChE 1993), plant manager of the East Kansas Agri-Energy ethanol facility in Garnett, KS, was interviewed for an article in Popular Mechanics regarding ethanol fuel made from corn as a cleaner, alternative fuel to imported oil.

This award honors successful alumni in the midst of their professional careers and accomplishments. Each department head may nominate one person per year, and the dean selects winners based on significant success demonstrated by professional accomplishments, service to society or to the engineering profession, support of the college and other distinguished activities. Candidates also must exhibit a promise of continued success and have received their last K-State degree in the past 20 years.
